Support West Bend Schools

Preserving our Tradition of Excellence

The goal of this website is to provide comprehensive and accurate information on issues the West Bend School District is facing. Our initial and primary focus will be on funding and the financial issues.  We support the School District and recognize the difficulty it faces in balancing the budget, providing strong educational programs and addressing taxpayer concerns .  The District's mounting financial obstacles  and the solutions found will have a huge impact on our children’s education and the future of our community.  Another goal is to help facilitate and foster healthy relationships and communication between parents, students, the community and the School Board and administrators.  At the same time, we will promote our District's positive aspects by highlighting the areas in which our schools continue to excel. This website is maintained by concerned parents and citizens of the community and is not affiliated with the West Bend School District or its employees.

If this is your first time visiting, we suggest you start by reading through "School Funding Basics" and then head on over to "School Funding - Current Issues".  We will keep you updated with all the latest information here.  Thanks for your interest!

Announcements

Budget Cuts: The School District continues the process of finding approximately $2 million in cuts for the 2010-11 budget in order to stay under the revenue limits.  See here for the current cut list. Please visit this article in "Latest News" for an explanation of why $2 million in cuts is needed.  Please continue to check this website and the School District website for updates and information.

Update 4/27/10: With the tentative agreement reached with the teachers union on April 26 and concessions made by the teachers, the District may be able to avoid approximately $600,000 in program cuts for next year (reducing the total above cuts of $2 million). See here for details.

Quotable

One of the first questions people ask when they consider moving to a community is “Tell me about the public schools, their curricular and extracurricular programs?  How do test scores compare to other districts in the state?"  In West Bend we have always been able to say our public schools offer more high level advance placement classes than most districts.  The art, music, foreign language and athletic programs have been high quality as well.  Without those important attributes, we will become a community in decline.  If you care about home values in West Bend, support your community schools.

West Bend Schools Need Pools

A local group is fundraising to support our high school pool with a current drive underway to raise $40,000 by mid-Sept.  Their goal is to save the aquatics facility and reduce operating costs with energy efficient projects. They are halfway to their goal. See this article for what you can do to help.
